It just disappointed at the end. I'll be curious to hear your reactions.

Looking forward to reading more of your stuff in the new year as well. I don't comment much, but I'm reading...I have to catch up on a lot of that Aught music too...

Take care.Bob Turnbullhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02243657105760780425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977893001776125260.post-90727823743811535302010-01-01T13:00:31.512-05:002010-01-01T13:00:31.512-05:00You're absolutely right: preconceived notions ...You're absolutely right: preconceived notions will never go away, whether these notions build up or bring down expectations on a given film. I've done this myself countless times.

I'm hoping to catch "Up In the Air" sometime in the next week or two. I'm anxious, because it seems to be the most polarizing film in recent months...there's unbridled praise, scatching criticism, and a rare happy medium that suggests that it's a strong film in great film's clothing.

And I'll be keeping track...one more use of the word "bro-mance," and we'll have to have a talk. Ha.

Happy New Year, Bob. Look forward to keeping up with your essays in 2010.James Yateshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08318633423894546202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977893001776125260.post-67514912605625179622009-12-31T10:49:51.149-05:002009-12-31T10:49:51.149-05:00What if today was your last day??What if today was your last day??Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977893001776125260.post-52552307221814402412009-12-30T10:30:49.776-05:002009-12-30T10:30:49.776-05:00Thanks for chiming in gents!
Andrew, thanks for t...Thanks for chiming in gents!

Andrew, thanks for the kind words...I hope you'll revisit! Yeah, I should try to extend my thoughts on some of these, but truth be told, as much as I like many of them, I'm not overly passionate about a lot of them. 500 Days could grow in my estimation with another watch and so could Basterds. "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is the only one that really put a bounce into my step after seeing it. I'll have to check your blog for what you thought of Away We Go.

Hatter, I've had that experience before - working through a bunch of movies (recent or otherwise) and every one of them failing to hit their mark one after the other. Not often mind you - I tailor my viewing to films that have garnered my interest in some way so I have a high hit ratio - but it certainly takes the wind out of your sails...Until you come across something good or a surprise - and then you're hooked all over again.

Marc, any thoughts on 500 Days? As for the lens flares, I'm not overly irked by them, but I thought they were overkill and don't really see the point. Then again, I suppose there doesn't have to be one...Bob Turnbullhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02243657105760780425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977893001776125260.post-30236588471526731472009-12-27T11:56:38.638-05:002009-12-27T11:56:38.638-05:00Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed a...Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed all the lens flares in Star Trek - although I think I liked them a little more than you did...

Got (500) Days of Summer under the tree this year. Good to see that by and large you enjoyed much of what you watched, it'd be a pity to have a stack of DVD's that high in the "to watch" section and they all turn out to be clunkers, no?Ryan McNeilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00440134802928893661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977893001776125260.post-69012429738943410292009-12-27T03:24:17.996-05:002009-12-27T03:24:17.996-05:00Damn, that's quite a bite for one post.
