I've Been Slimed...Uh, I mean, Meme-ed!

Having been a "blogger" for just over a year, I'm still pretty keen on these meme things. However, as I mentioned to Sarah (who tagged me with this one after being tagged herself by Arbogast), I've still always apologized to anyone I've ever tagged as a result of a meme. I kinda feel guilty about driving additional posting duties on their side...

So if I tag you, don't feel compelled to continue this one on at all. Or perhaps write your response post, but don't feel you need to find 5 others.

Having said that, it's a pretty fun and cool meme and shouldn't take much work. Here's the scoop:

  1. Pick up the nearest book.
  2. Open to page 123.
  3. Locate the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the next three sentences on your blog and in so doing…
  5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you

I like this one so much, I'm gonna do it three times (I did the same thing when Piper tagged me awhile ago with the Dinner Time meme). The following three books were all within arm's reach of me and are all currently in the midst of being read (the first one since last August I think...):

From the Q&A with Howard Hawks (the sixth sentence is actually the question):

"Did you ever get in trouble when you got to the editing room and felt that you wished you had more coverage?

No, not really. If I don't like a scene I protect myself so I can cut it down."

And I have to include the next sentence too:

"If I like the scene I make it so nobody can cut it down, otherwise some stupid jerk will want to cut something out I want to keep."

Dawkins' eloquent statement of the facts of evolution:

"But what we can say is that there is a length of 306 characters in cows, which is virtually identical to a length of 306 characters in peas. Cows and peas differ from each other in only two characters out of these 306. We don't know exactly how long ago the common ancestor of cows and peas lived, but fossil evidence suggests that it was somewhere between 1000 and 2000 million years ago."

I've just started this tale of a 14 year old outsider and I think I'm going to like it:

"And that's where Sam Hellerman had been when I observed him that first day, "hanging," as he put it, just a little to the left of the Hillmont Knight.

Now, here's something I've noticed about girls, after years of careful observation. They tend to sort themselves into groups of three."

I've tagged the following:

James at Toronto Screen Shots
Shannon at Movie Moxie
Chet at Under The Influence
Adam at DVD Panache
Damian at Windmills Of My Mind
Jeremy at Moon In The Gutter

I'm feeling bad. I saw the link and thought you tagged me. I've got Where The Sidewalk Ends and I was ready to complete the meme.

Son of a...

Here that everyone that got tagged. Here's a lonely cuss that wants to get tagged.

Jeez, I'm so pathetic.

And of course by saying here, I mean HEAR.

There there Piper...There there.

My selections were based on one simple algorithm --> Copy and Paste the html code from my previous meme to tag the same people as I did last time. In other words - laziness ruled the day.

Actually, I was so lazy I didn't even notice that I tagged 6 people (just like last time) when this meme only called for 5.

OK, not quite as pathetic as you, but still kinda sad...

Piper, as I double-memed Bob, you are now officially his replacement meme.

And Bob, doesn't it feel good to be double-slimed ... er ... memed? Sort of like the 21st Century's answer to Laugh-In's Sock It To Me Girl.

PIPER said...

Wait. What?

Double Memed for what?

For the book thing?

Michael Guillen said...

Yup. Some guys are just so popular they're everyone's first choice.

It's one of my proudest days Michael...

Actually I did grab the nearest book (my wife's copy of "A Short History Of Nearly Everything") and thought that there must be some great nuggets in there. These are sentences 6 through 8 from page 123:

"By various recondite processes, he converted the urine first into a noxious paste and then into a translucent waxy substance. None of it yielded gold, of course, but a strange and interesting thing did happen. After a time, the substance began to glow."

Nuggets indeed...

You can have this one Piper. B-)

Hey thanks for tagging me. Sorry about the delay in responding but I was in the midst of finals last week...I will get my choice posted either tonight or tomorrow...all the best and I hope you are well!

Oh no Piper I'm tagging you 'cause it looks as though Adam (DVD Panache) Ross won't respond to my meme tag and this tag precedes Michael's by two tags, at least.

Oops now it looks as if you're you're double tagged...

Jeremy, thanks! I saw your post on Moon In The Gutter and it was excellent.

So let's see...If I then actually do another meme post and actually tag Piper from within that post, he would become triple tagged. And I think the entire meme universe would implode...

Hmmm, worth trying.
