I counted eight Japanese movies released on Region 1 DVD today. The most recent one was by Takashi Miike, but the others are from the 60s and early 70s. You shouldn't find it too hard to make your wait more enjoyable.

No doubt...

I have to say that the Debauched Desires 4 disc set looks appealing. I might spring for that.

I've been behind in so much of late that I never got around to pre-ordering both "3 Seconds Before Explosion" and "Detective Bureau 2-3: Go To Hell Bastards" (two of the best titles, like, ever...). But that should be rectified soon.

And the Imamura...I will get to that too, though probably later. "Intentions Of Murder" is pretty amazing, but haven't seen the other two before.

I guess I'll manage somehow...

These look fun. I've only watched the first 15 minutes of Branded to Kill but I expect these will be in that vein?

Hey James...

Well, nothing quite compares to "Branded To Kill", but yeah - they should be somewhat in that style. Seijun Suzuki only helms one of the five and it's one of his earlier efforts, but I expect there's still enough visual and narrative experimentation to make pretty fun yakuza/crime stories even more interesting.

I really do recommend you try to see all of "Branded To Kill". I think it's a blast and very inventive as well. Tell you what...If you can make it out to J-Film Pow-Wow bash Saturday night, I'll bring it to loan you (along with "Seagull's Laughter" which I think I promised you quite some time ago, right?).

You can't pass that up!

Bob, you actually DID loan me Seagull's Laughter a while back, so now I'm going to try to watch it before Saturday! Speaking of, I'm about 75% sure I'll be there. There's a possibility we might be having dinner with some friends we don't see nearly often enough, but it's still up in the air, and it's almost the weekend.

Damn. You know, I had this thought in the back of my mind that I had already given it to you...Don't feel you have to rush a viewing in before Saturday - I obviously haven't missed it (don't get me wrong - it's a great film).

75%. Good odds. Hope it works out.
