This is such a beautiful film, one of the finest examples of colour cinematography I've ever seen. I reviewed it over at my site and Row Three a few months ago.

Just read your review and I concur. I enjoyed the melodrama of the film, but the stars are the palettes, the costumes and the mixing of the two. And I only watched the DVD - I expect the BR would've blown my corneas...

I think it would - Masters of Cinema always do a great job, but that looked gobsmacking in HD. I watched it on the HD projector at work too. I was practically drooling :)
