Close-Up Blog-a-thon - "This is a close-up?"
The first thing I thought of when the Close-Up blog-a-thon (running between Oct. 12-21) was announced was my all time favourite Looney Tune - "Duck Amuck".
Mel Blanc was a genius - every word and sound uttered by Daffy makes me laugh out loud (I love his Hawaiian song). Chuck Jones is a genius - every movement and scene change flows smoothly through the entire absurdity of it all. Every single person involved with this cartoon is a genius - the animation, the sound effects, the music cues...
Here's the whole thing...The relevant section starts with 2:43 left in the clip:
"Hey, come here. Come here! Gimme a close-up. A close-up...This is a close-up? A close-up ya jerk! A close-up!!
Thanks for the sour persimmons, cousin."
Genius.

You said it, cousin. Genius.
Great post Bob,
I also went immediately to this place, and I also thought of High Anxiety when the camera gets too close or is having to move around underneath the table because the plates and cups are covering everything.
Thanks for the comments...
I love that scene from "High Anxiety" . That would be a great addition to the blog-a-thon.
Speaking of Mel Blanc, I found this YouTube video of him (on the Drawn! blog - via Greencine Daily) on an old Letterman show from 1981:
